For the adventurous among you, we’re here to highlight a few hidden gems in case that are taking part in the New Year Sale, so you can try something new for 2026.

Ballet Shoes

What’s it about? Three adopted sisters get taken into the house of an Edwardian explorer and paleontologist. Under the guidance of his niece and childhood nanny, the three girls grow and fight to pursue their differing passions in a world not built for women with ambition.

Why should I see it? The National Theatre’s adaptation of this 1930s novel was loved by children and adults alike when it premiered in November 2024 – so much so they brought it back a year later.

The three girls are full of fire and charisma; you can’t help be charmed by their never-say-die attitude. The set is like a madcap box of wonders that’s a delight to look at and the show will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy.

What’s the offer? Tickets for £20, £30, £40, £50, £60 for Tue – Thu performances in Jan and Mon – Thu performances in Feb until 20 Feb.

Evening All Afternoon

What’s it about? Jennifer is about to become Delilah’s stepmother. She wants to connect but they couldn’t be further apart.

Why should I see it? The Donmar Warehouse is a great venue – with only three rows on each side of the stage, you’re always close to the atmosphere which is perfect for these kind of intimate two-handers. Anna Ziegler’s last play, Photograph 51, won Evening Standard and WhatsOnStage Awards, with an Olivier Award nomination for Nciole Kidman in the lead role. This could be another award winner in the making.

What’s the offer? Tickets for £40 or £50 on all performances (19 Feb – 11 Apr).

Gerry & Sewell

Gerry Sewell sits on a Metro train, wearing a dark jacket, surrounded by passengers and urban scenery.
Gerry, Sewell and their dog Rusty thinking up a new scheme to get a season ticket

What’s it about? Two Geordie best friends Gerry & Sewell haven’t got a lot going from them – with no jobs, Gerry’s family falling apart and Sewell’s dad in ill-health – so they set their sights on their ultimate dream: A season ticket to Newcastle United.

Why should I see it? It’s an underdog story that celebrates the unexpected hero in all of us, as well as the importance of friendship and shared passions. Like the story, the play itself is an underdog, having started at Laurel’s – a small social club in the North East – and earned its way up to a two-week run in the West End.

What’s the offer? Top price tickets for £40, £50 or £60 all performances – must end 24 January.

High Noon

What’s it about? In the the days of the Wild West, small town marshall Will Kane prepares to leave town after marrying Amy Fowler. But word arrives that Frank Miller, a vicious outlaw, has been released from prison and will arrive by the noon train. Torn between the honour of his new wife and the duty of his old job, Will must make a choice by noon.

Why should I see it? The 1952 Gary Cooper / Grace Kelly Western film, on which the play is based, is in the conversation for greatest movie ever made. While this play stays true to the source material, the production has changed its inspiration from McCarthyism to current world events to remain as timely as ever. Plus it unites two great acting talents in Tony Award winner Billy Crudup (The Morning Show) and Olivier Award winner Denise Gough (People, Places And Things and Andor)

What’s the offer? Tickets for £30, £40, or £50 for Mon – Fri performances for weeks beginning 26 Jan and 2 & 9 Feb.

Mrs. President

What’s it about? Already having todeal with the grief of Abraham Lincoln’s assassination, his widow, Mary Lincoln has to contend with social attacks from an envious elite. She engages the help of the world’s first celebrity photographer, Mathew Brady, who helped her husband win the presidency. But their partnership soon unravels in a battle for creative control.

Why should I see it? The play is written by playwright and historian (and artist) John Ransom Phillips so promises to be an accurate and thought-provoking account of power, female agency and representation. Of course, if you’re less concerned with historical accuracy and more concerned with a barrel of laughs, Mary Lincoln is also the lead character in outrageous camp comedy Oh, Mary! at the Trafalgar Theatre – also taking part in the New Year Sale.

What’s the offer? Tickets for £10, £20, £30 or £40 for all performances (23 Jan – 8 Mar).

The Spy Who Came In From The Cold

David Rubin points a gun at Rory Keenan, who holds a wooden chair, in a dramatic scene.
Alec Leamas goes back into the cold for one final mission. Photo by Johan Persson.

What’s it about? Set in the murky world of the Cold War, British intelligence officer Alec Leamas is ready to retire and ‘come in from the cold’. But following the killing of his most reliable source, Leamas is tempted into one dangerous, deceptive and personal final mission.

Why should I see it? This is the first stage adaptation of a novel by John le Carré, the master of the modern spy thriller. Performed in Sohoplace’s intimate in-the-round space with period costume, this a tense, sophisticated and provocative look at the political era that shaped the modern world. Must end 21 February.

What’s the offer? Tickets for £60 (£20 off) for performances on 21, 26, 27 & 28 Jan and 2 & 3 Feb. Last few tickets remaining.

Summerfolk

What’s it about? During the hot and beautiful Russian summer of 1905, Russia’s elite holiday in the countryside to enjoy the best things in life. But as the party continues, how long can they ignore the storm on the horizon?

Why should I see it? Maxim Gorky was one of Russia’s most successful authors of the age, with five Nobel Prize nominations, although he was also imprisoned for his work as he dared to criticise the status quo. This exciting new version by siblings Nina and Moses Raine (descended from Dr Zhivago author Boris Pasternak) promises to be a razor-sharp portrait of class, privilege and denial.

What’s the offer? Tickets for £20, £30, £40, £50 for most performances from 12 Mar – 29 Apr.

What shows are opening soon in the New Year Sale? https://officiallondontheatre.com/news/whats-opening-later-this-year-in-the-new-year-sale/ Thu, 08 Jan 2026 17:19:03 +0000 https://officiallondontheatre.com/news/ You might hear the phrase New Year Sale and think that our offers are just for January – but actually, our sale has tickets to select performances all the way to August. Each show’s schedule is different so shop around, but remember to take advantage of these offers you must book by 31 January.

This is particularly true of shows which haven’t opened yet. Given these shows are new and may be unfamiliar to you, we thought we’d take a closer look at shows in the New Year Sale which are opening in the coming months…

January

Gerry & Sewell opens on 13 January. This heart-warming comedy about friendships and underdogs follows two Newcastle United fans desperate to get a season ticket. After a sell-out run in the North East, the play transfers to the West End for only two weeks.

Chichester Festival Theatre has a strong record of West End transfers – think Half A Sixpence, Quiz, revivals of Gypsy and Caroline, Or Change – and it shows no signs of slowing down.

The Unlikely Pilgrimage Of Harold Fry is a new musical based on Rachel Joyce’s profound and funny novel, with music by indie musician Passenger. It had rave reviews in Chichester last summer and transfers with original cast members Mark Addy and Olivier Award winner Jenna Russell, with previews from 29 January and New Year Sale prices in February, too.

Four performers in vibrant costumes engage in dynamic poses against a colourful abstract backdrop.

Theatre company Frantic Assembly celebrate their 30th anniversary with a new play, Lost Atoms, written by Anna Jordan who wrote episodes of Succession and One Day. The play charts the life-changing relationship of Jess and Robbie and focusses on how differing memories can change our stories. It runs at the Lyric Hammersmith from 30 January – 28 February, taking part in the New Year Sale for February performances.

February

For one night only, X Factor contestant turned West End star Lucie Jones is Live At The London Palladium. Blending her live gig roots with the drama of her stage career, including regular performances in Les Miserables and the leading role in Waitress, this will be a unique concert that showcases her incredible vocal talent. Expect surprise appearances and unique collaborations. 16 February only.

Evening All Afternoon is a brand new play by American playwright Anna Ziegler, who had a hit on the West End with Photograph 51, starring Nicole Kidman. This play explores the relationship between a stepmother and stepdaughter, confronting the human dilemma about facing loss and opening up to new connections. The play runs from 19 February – 11 April at the Donmar Warehouse, an intimate and compelling space with a storied history.

March

Sibling duo Nina and Moses Raine (Consent and Donkey Heart, respectively) team up for a new translation of Summer Folk, by Russian dramatist Maxim Gorky. 1905 was a hot, beautiful summer in Russia, but while the elite wine and dine, a storm is on the horizon. The story is fitting for the Raines, whose great uncle was Boris Pasternak, author of Doctor Zhivago. Summer Folk runs from 12 March – 29 April at the National Theatre.

Strictly Come Dancing’s Johannes Radebe will lead the cast of Kinky Boots

While you can find opera and ballet at the London Coliseum for much of the year, London’s largest theatre stages a big musical each summer. This March will see the first West End revival of Kinky Boots.

The show is based on the British film and true story of a Northampton shoe factory that hits hard times, then takes a chance on becoming a specialist in shoewear for drag artists. With music and lyrics by pop star Cyndi Lauper and a book by Harvey Fierstein (La Cage Aux Folles), this production will be led by Strictly Come Dancing’s Johannes Radebe in the role of Lola.  It runs from 17 March – 11 July with New Year Sale offers on most April, May and June performances.

Tell Us In Ten: Joel Montague https://officiallondontheatre.com/news/tell-us-in-ten-joel-montague/ Thu, 20 Nov 2025 12:05:16 +0000 https://officiallondontheatre.com/news/ In our profile series, Tell Us In Ten, we ask cast members and creatives of top London shows to tell us all about themselves in just 10 questions. From how they got their start in the industry to their favourite shows, we want to know everything.

This time we chatted to Joel Montague who is starring as Buddy in Elf The Musical at the Aldwych Theatre.

1. My route into theatre was…

I started dancing at my mum’s dancing school in Crewe. I then was part of my school choir and did many school shows and amateur dramatics. I then auditioned for GSA and never looked back.

2. My West End idol is…

I have many, most of them are my stupidly talented friends. I adore actors like Jamie Parker, his career is inscribed and diverse. Broadway idol wise, Gavin Creel, who I had the pleasure of knowing and working with and my ultimate hero Brian d’Arcy James.

3. My colleagues would describe me as…

Fun, naughty and I’d like to think consistent.

4. My favourite show (that isn’t one I star in/work on) is…

I LOVE The Wild Party by Andrew Lippa.

5. The career moment I’m most proud of is…

There’s a few. Currently, working with my wife. Also playing opposite Sheridan Smith in Funny Girl.

6. The hardest part about my job/role is…

Finding my voice every morning to do a show in the evening.

7. If I wasn’t an actor, I would be…

A Disney Imagineer.

8. Something people don’t know about me is…

I trained as a dancer. I can also tap quite well.

9. The best piece of advice I’ve ever been given is…

It’s not necessarily about being the best. It’s about being unique.

10. The one thing I wish I could tell my younger self is…

Don’t worry. Things will work themselves out but just know the highs are high and the lows are low. However, you’ll come of it stronger and more educated.

If smiling’s your favourite, don’t miss this seasonal smash-hit at the Aldwych Theatre.

Celebrating Tina! https://officiallondontheatre.com/news/celebrating-tina/ Fri, 28 Oct 2022 15:15:10 +0000 http://&p=111437631 We went to down to the Aldwych Theatre for the gala night for Tina – The Tina Turner Musical, thrown to celebrate the new cast! There are two relatively new Tinas who have stepped into that glittery gown to play the Queen of rock and roll herself.

Elesha Paul Moses comes to the role of Tina off the back of a successful music career. Having appeared on The Voice she was mentored by Will.I.Am and Tom Jones as well as Matthew Knowles. She’s written and performed with a whole host of recognisable names including Ku De Ta, Lionel Richie, Nicky Graham and Andy Abraham on his Eurovision performance. She was also the lead of the touring shows Whitney: Queen Of The Night and Tina: What’s Love Got To Do With It, so she’s no stranger to belting those notes.

Kristina Love joins the cast having played Tina in the very first non-English version of the musical in Hamburg. Having grown up in Houston Texas, Kristina moved to Germany and has starred in plenty of other musicals on the continent including Dirty Dancing, Sister Act, Aladdin and The Hunchback Of Notre Dame. If there’s anything more impressive than a musical theatre star it’s one who can perform in more than one language!

Tony from the OLT team had never seen Tina before, so we asked him what he thought of it! He said:

“I’m blown away by the voices, the dancing is incredible and its such a fascinating story. I’d recommend it to anyone who’s looking for a really good night out – it gets a bit darker and more interesting that a regular night out maybe! – but by the end of it you’ll have had such a good time.”

The Reign of the Bio-Musicals https://officiallondontheatre.com/news/reign-bio-musicals/ Fri, 22 Oct 2021 15:34:30 +0000 http://&p=111429653 This week marked the official opening of the latest biographical musical (or ‘bio-musical,’ if you will) to hit the West End stage. Get Up, Stand Up! The Bob Marley Musical celebrated its press night at the Lyric Theatre on 20 October with critics praising the reggae-infused production as “a joyful night out that also feels like an important cultural event” (Evening Standard) and “a brilliant show that gives Bob Marley back his bite” (The Telegraph).

In addition, my colleague Richard and I took a trip to the beautiful Theatre Royal in Newcastle yesterday to check out the next bio-musical gearing up for its own West End premiere. The Drifters Girl tells the little-known story behind the much-loved American vocal group (with its revolving door of members) and their pioneering female manager, Faye Treadwell. The jukebox tuner, which boasts such standards as “Save the Last Dance For Me,” “Under the Boardwalk,” and “Saturday Night at the Movies,” is set to begin performances at the Garrick Theatre on 4 November.

Ever since the phenomenal success of Jersey Boys, bringing the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons to life on stage, debuting on Broadway back in 2005, the bio-musical has gained more and more momentum in the realm of commercial theatre. The popularity and instant recognition of established pop hits twinned with the curiosity to peak behind-the-scenes of the making of the world’s most famous stars has, on the whole, proved a winning formula for producers. Arguably, it’s also a formula that entices the general, non-theatregoing public to a musical for the very first time.

So, in light of this ever-growing trend, we thought we’d take a closer look at the current bio-musicals on offer in London’s West End, as well as the plethora of projects in development for both sides of the Atlantic…

Get Up, Stand Up! The Bob Marley Musical

Three-time Olivier Award nominee Arinzé Kene takes on the titular role and gives a performance of a lifetime in this brand new musical which follows the trials and tribulations of the reggae legend and Jamaica’s favourite son, Bob Marley. Opening directly in the West End is always considered a bold move, but one that has certainly paid off, judging from the positive audience reactions we’ve experienced so far. Indeed, on the night we attended, the entire audience was up dancing long before the curtain call. The show itself is a unique, cultural experience that presents Bob Marley’s iconic back catalogue in both the classic, musical theatre-style of narrative progression alongside concert setting and recording session depictions. It also explores the more complicated elements of Marley’s polygamous love life and doesn’t shy away from themes of violence and corruption, which fuelled Jamaican politics at the time, alongside an assassination attempt on the musician himself.

Why not get up, stand up and head down to the Lyric Theatre to experience Arinzé’s tour-de-force performance for yourself?

The Drifters Girl

It’s always a joy to see Beverley Knight, the Queen of British Soul, treading the boards and this time she is portraying a non-fictional character by the name of Faye Treadwell. A true, but sadly underappreciated pioneer, she defiantly made waves in a male-dominated music industry as the manager of the iconic African-American vocal group known as The Drifters. She defended herself both in the workplace and even in a court of law and helped bring the group’s beloved songs (no matter who was a part of said group at that time) to their masses of fans on both sides of the pond. Under the direction of Jonathan Church, Beverley not only stars in the production but was fully involved in the creative process alongside her uber-talented cast mates, Tosh Wanogho-Maud, Tarinn Callender and Olivier Award winners Adam J. Bernard and Matt Henry.

Will you be Kissin’ in the Back Row of the Garrick Theatre when performances begin on 4 November?

Jersey Boys

The newly renovated and refurbished Trafalgar Theatre reopened its doors this past summer with the West End return of the bio-musical sensation that is Jersey Boys. Winning ‘Best New Musical’ at the Olivier Awards in 2009, the production proved not only its own merit but also that the genre of jukebox musicals can garner just as much critical acclaim as their more traditional counterparts. Telling the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons through humble beginnings in New Jersey to the dizzying heights of the 1990 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the show delivers such classics as “December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night),” “Walk Like a Man,” and “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” just to name a few.

If you still are yet to see this musical sensation, we are Beggin’ you to right that wrong immediately!

Tina: The Tina Turner Musical

Tina, the 2018 bio-musical that tells the story of the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll, is still going strong at the Aldwych Theatre, headlined by the incredible Aisha Jawando in the titular role with outstanding support from Jammy Kasongo as Ike Turner. Audiences follow a young Anna Mae Bullock from the cotton fields of Nutbush, Tennessee, via her involvement and creation of the Tina Turner persona in the Ike & Tina Turner Revue and all its resulting hardships of domestic violence, to finally breaking out as a solo artist, enjoying global domination despite the ageism and racism she faced within the music industry. From “River Deep Mountain High” and “Proud Mary” to “What’s Love Got to Do with It?” and “We Don’t Need Another Hero,” the show boasts an embarrassment of musical riches that merge naturally with the narrative and create a must-see event for Tina fans from across the globe.

Is Tina simply “The Best” bio-musical in town? Why not find out for yourself…

On the Horizon…

The popular trend of bio-musicals isn’t showing any signs of slowing down from what we can see. Alongside the four West End productions we have just highlighted, Broadway is set to welcome the world premiere of MJ: The Musical from 6 December 2021, which shines a spotlight once again on the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. This will join the popular 2019 Broadway musical Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of The Temptations, who were, of course, a staple of the Motown era. And speaking of Motown, The Four Tops are also getting the bio-musical treatment with a production set to debut in Detroit (where else?) before reportedly heading to New York for the 2022-23 Broadway season. The group famously enjoyed a kind of sibling rivalry with their Motown brethren, The Temptations, and perhaps therefore weren’t to be outdone by the success of Ain’t Too Proud.

But the buck doesn’t stop there. It was recently announced that West End heavyweight-producer Sonia Friedman has joined the team bringing a bio-musical about Whitney Houston to the stage, and Sinatra: The Musical was announced to be in development way back in 2018. In addition, Leicester seems to be the place to be, when it comes to bio-musicals, as the Curve Theatre is set to premiere The Osmonds: A New Musical from 3 February 2022, a new production of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical just three weeks later, on 28 February, and the UK premiere of The Cher Show on 15 April, all ahead of extensive UK and Ireland tours.

So, the future is bright and brimming with classics from the pop charts thanks to theatres across the globe getting set to bring the music industry’s most illustrious stars to life for years and years to come…

West End-bound Moulin Rouge! The Musical wins big at The Tony Awards https://officiallondontheatre.com/news/west-end-bound-moulin-rouge-the-musical-wins-big-at-the-tony-awards/ Mon, 27 Sep 2021 10:15:31 +0000 http://&p=111429306 Across the pond in New York City last night, the Broadway community finally gathered to crown and celebrate the winners of the belated 2020 Tony Awards at the Winter Garden Theatre. Although this will be the ceremony forever remembered with an asterisk (due to the heavily diminished number of eligible Broadway productions that were able to officially open in NYC during the 2019-2020 season before the pandemic hit), it will also be remembered as the night when one spectacular (spectacular!) production swept the board. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Moulin Rouge…

Based on Baz Luhrmann’s revolutionary 2001 film, Moulin Rouge! The Musical took home the most coveted Tony last night by beating both Tina: The Tina Turner Musical and Jagged Little Pill in the category of “Best Musical.” In fact, the mammoth production walked away with a staggering total of 10 Tony Awards, including “Best Direction of a Musical” for Alex Timbers, “Best Choreography” for Sonya Tayeh and “Best Orchestrations” for Katie Kresek, Charlie Rosen, Matt Stine and Justin Levine.

Perhaps the most emotional win of the night came as Danny Burstein (who plays Harold Zidler on Broadway) finally won his first, long-overdue Tony Award (for “Best Featured Actor in a Musical”) following six previous nominations. His fellow cast member Aaron Tveit, who starred in the Menier Chocolate Factory’s 2014 production of Assassins, unsurprisingly took home the Tony for “Best Leading Actor in a Musical” (in an uncontested category) for his performance as Christian.

From 12 November, London audiences will also be able to embrace the Bohemian lifestyle as the doors to the much-anticipated West End transfer of Moulin Rouge! The Musical open at the Piccadilly Theatre.

Congratulations also go to the outstanding Adrienne Warren, who originated the titular role in Tina: The Tina Turner Musical here in the West End. Her astonishing, tour-de-force performance in the Broadway transfer earned her a first Tony Award last night in the category of “Best Leading Actress in a Musical.” Relive her 2019 Olivier Awards performance here:

The original West End production continues to entertain London audiences as “Simply The Best” bio-musical in town at the Aldwych Theatre.

Other winners of note include Matthew Lopez’s heart-wrenching, two-part drama The Inheritance, which secured the top honour of “Best Play” (beating stiff competition from the likes of Jeremy O. Harris’ provocative Slave Play). The production had previously triumphed in the category of “Best New Play” at the 2019 Olivier Awards, following its runs at the Young Vic and Noel Coward Theatre, and our very own Stephen Daldry also did the double, adding a Tony Award for “Best Direction of a Play” last night to his 2019 “Best Director” Olivier. In addition, Andrew Burnap, who originated the role of Toby Darling in London, also took home a Tony in the category of “Best Leading Actor in a Play.”

We would also love to give a shout-out to a slew of British winners, who also triumphed in their respective categories last night. Congratulations to the Old Vic as the Broadway premiere of its production of A Christmas Carol secured an impressive total of five Tony Awards. Christopher Nightingale won “Best Score” for his musical efforts, Hugh Vanstone and Simon Baker took the prizes for “Best Lighting Design of a Play” and “Best Sound Design of a Play,” respectively, whilst Rob Howell scored a further two wins for A Christmas Carol single-handedly: “Best Scenic Design of a Play” and “Best Costume Design of a Play.” Two legendary, British-born designers also triumphed last night for their contributions to Moulin Rouge! The Musical with Derek McLane winning “Best Scenic Design of a Musical” and Catherine Zuber taking “Best Costume Design of a Musical,” marking her tenth Tony win in remarkable fashion.

All in all, the 74th Annual Tony Awards welcomed Broadway #BackOnStage in style last night and we simply cannot wait for the big winner of the night to raise the curtain at the Piccadilly Theatre in November here in the West End.

Tina Turner said: “Music has had the power to pull me out of my darkest moments and rejoice during my happiest. Six

If you’ve not already heard, Six is a fresh British musical that everyone (we mean literally, everyone) is losing their heads over.

Think: Beyonce and Ariana Grande meets Tudor Queens. Yes, that’s right – this pop-tastic musical is all about the six wives of Henry VIII, who in true 21st century girl power-mode, take to the mics to tell their tales. In this pop-fuelled concert, the Pop Princesses remix five hundred years of historical heartbreak into an 80-minute celebration of true female empowerment! With an incredibly strong and powerful message, this homegrown musical is not one to be missed.

If you’d like to know more about the musical, click the video above for an exclusive performance alongside a Q&A with some of the cast members. And if you’re still wondering whether to grab your tickets, check out our roundup of Six ways Six stunned us here.

Everybody’s Talking About Jamie

Layton Williams’ performance of Over The Wall gave us major goosebumps last night and was a big reminder of why show this is one of the most wonderful musicals in London. If you need a dose of inspiration or something that’s going to get you up on your feet and clicking your fingers with sass, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie at the Apollo Theatre is a winner! Inspired by a documentary about a real boy named Jamie Campbell, the musical follows the tale of 16-year-old with a secret to tell – and dreams to make true.

We don’t want to give away too much, but when Jamie New found himself the target of bullies, he decides to tell his truth and share his story with the world. In an act of bravery, adversary and fabulousness, and with the help of his Mum and friends, he steps out of the darkness and owns the spotlight, becoming the school sensation and making his dreams come true.

Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

Jac Yarrow had us dreaming of being at musicals in London again in last night’s incredible performance of Any Dream Will Do from Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Over fifty years on from its release as a concept album, Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat has well and truly taken its place as one of the world’s most loved family musicals. It’s hard to imagine that the multi-award-winning show began life as a small scale school concert, having since been performed in over 80 countries as far afield as Zimbabwe and Peru!

Lucky for us, the show is to be re-imagined in a spectacular new production to tell the story of Jacob’s favourite son, Joseph, and his eleven brothers. Sold into slavery out of the jealousy of his kin, Joseph finds himself in Egypt, where his reputation burgeons under Potiphar. But when he rejects the advances of Potiphar’s wife, Joseph is thrown into jail, where he discovers a unique ability to interpret dreams. Can he use this to resolve Egypt’s family and reunite with his family once more?

Starring Jason Donovan (as Pharaoh) and Jac Yarrow (as Joseph) and back by popular demand, the legendary musical promises to feature an epic score including renowned pop and musical theatre songs Any Dream Will Do, Close Every Door To Me, Jacob And Sons, There’s One More Angel In Heaven, and Go Go Go Joseph.

What are you waiting for? Check out the showstopping performance above and grab your tickets now so that you have something exciting to look forward to when musicals in London reopen.

If you’re uncertain which show to book but would like to support the industry and have something to look forward to, Theatre Tokens are a great alternative. They have no expiry date and can be used at more than 260 venues nationwide. Click here to find out more!

The Unicorn Theatre is delighted to announce that The Duchess of Cornwall has accepted its invitation for her Patronage to be extended for a further term.

Her Royal Highness has been the theatre’s patron since 2005 and is a keen supporter of the arts and a regular visitor to the Unicorn.  The Duchess most recently guest edited the Emma Barnett show on BBC Radio Five Live, which featured the theatre’s acclaimed Unicorn Online, devised as a response to the building’s closure due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Artistic Director Justin Audibert said ‘I’m so delighted that The Duchess of Cornwall has kindly renewed her patronage. It is wonderful to have her ongoing support for our theatre and for our work with schools and community groups – and it feels especially important at such a difficult time for our industry and for children.’

Park theatre looks to the future

Park Theatre, London

Jez Bond and the team at Park Theatre are pleased to announce that Tania Dunn has been appointed to the role of Development Director, replacing Founding Development Director Dorcas Morgan, who recently moved on after nearly eight years at the theatre. Tania joins Park Theatre from the Young Vic, and previously worked in development at Shakespeare’s Globe and Historic Royal Palaces.

Tania’s appointment comes at a time of significant change for Park Theatre. A new staffing structure will facilitate a different model of programming, with the theatre aiming to reach out further to find, nurture, and develop artists. The position of Associate Artistic Director has been made redundant, with co-founder Melli Marie receiving the honorary lifetime title ‘Creative Director Emeritus’ to recognise her remarkable achievements over the years, whilst the Artistic & Executive Directors will be supported by a new General Manager, Producer Programmer and a team of readers & viewers. Recruitment for the new posts will begin in mid-February. Park Theatre continues to operate a Positive Action policy to aid in the endeavour to diversify their workforce. Any disabled candidates or candidates from a BAME background who meet the essential criteria listed in the person specification will be guaranteed a first-round interview.

Artistic Director Jez Bond says “I’m pleased that, with the support of our donors and funders, we have been able to craft a silver lining to the dark cloud of the last ten months. Tania Dunn arrives with a wealth of experience from, most recently, her work as Development Director at the Young Vic and, along with all the other changes we’re making, I’m thrilled for what this means for our next chapter. I am determined that we now reflect on who we are, what we are and why we are – so that we not only return, but burst forth with new promise for our community.”

Tania Dunn says, “I’m delighted to be joining the team at Park Theatre. I’ve been to countless brilliant productions there and I lived in Stroud Green when the theatre was being built so I’d always hoped to work there at some point. Jez and Dorcas have established a real community amongst the donors and I’m so looking forward to being a part of that as the theatre reopens and welcomes everyone back”

Tina – The Tina Turner Musical releases second single from cast album https://officiallondontheatre.com/news/tina-the-tina-turner-musical-to-record-uk-cast-album/ Tue, 05 Feb 2019 10:15:30 +0000 http://&p=111415640 For fans of Tina – The Tina Turner Musical, this news is going to be simply the best…(we’re sorry, it had to be done). There’s going to be an original cast album released!

Earlier this month, the musical released their first single to download and stream. River Deep – Mountain High was recorded at Angel Studios last month, produced by the show’s Musical Supervisor, Nicholas Skilbeck.

Now a second single has now been announced, as a treat to the eager fans who’ve still got a few more weeks to wait for the full album. Called The Hunter, it features the incredible voice of Olivier Award-nominated actor Kobna Holdbrook-Smith (who plays Ike Turner). The Hunter is now available to stream and download here.

The album will be released for digital download and streaming on Friday 29 March 2019, with a physical CD to be released at a later date. Customers who pre-order the digital album will immediately receive a download of  The Hunter along with the first single River Deep – Mountain High.

Tina – The Tina Turner Musical’s Arrangements, Additional Music and Musical Supervisor, Nicholas Skilbeck says, The Hunter was originally recorded by Ike and Tina Turner at the end of the 1960s and saw Tina’s first R&B Vocal Performance Grammy nomination. Ike Turner was a music revolutionary, considered by some, to be the father of rock n roll…We repositioned the song to be performed by Ike Turner (Kobna Holdbrook-Smith) and The Kings of Rhythm live at Club Manhattan in St. Louis in the 1950s, show-casing Ike’s musical genius and his role in creating the sound of tomorrow.

“When recording, the idea was to give this song a vintage quality but as though it had never been heard before, the listener is thrust back in time, into the raw energy of an early rock and roll gig, as if witnesses at the birth of the music revolution. Like our “River Deep-Mountain High” recording, it’s very much about feeling you are in the room with the music, Kobna, Adrienne, the band and having that visceral connection to it.”

The album’s track list will be:

  1. Etherland
  2. Nutbush City Limits
  3. Don’t Turn Around
  4. Shake a Tailfeather
  5. The Hunter
  6. Matchbox
  7. It’s Gonna Work Out Fine
  8. A Fool in Love
  9. Let’s Stay Together
  10. Better Be Good to Me
  11. Higher
  12. River Deep – Mountain High
  13. Be Tender with Me Baby
  14. Proud Mary
  15. I Don’t Wanna Fight
  16. Private Dancer
  17. Disco Inferno
  18. Open Arms
  19. I Can’t Stand the Rain
  20. Tonight
  21. What’s Love Got to Do with It
  22. We Don’t Need Another Hero
  23. (Simply) The Best
  24. Finale, Nutbush City Limits / Proud Mary

Tina Turner said about of the album’s announcement: “It is a privilege to have our show playing to full houses here in London night after night. I’m so looking forward to the release of our cast album, so we can share the music and also the way the songs tell my story. This was my biggest surprise in the making of the musical – I never realised my songs captured the life I was living.

“I’m turning 80 this year, and it’s a time for looking back. I’ve loved working with my producers, Phyllida, Katori, our creative team and of course this incredible cast led by Adrienne and Kobna. Together they found the love, and I am grateful.”

Playing at the Aldwych Theatre, Tina – The Tina Turner Musicals documents the incredible career of singer Tina Turner. From her humble beginnings in Tennessee to her transformation into the iconic Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll, this show is full of emotion, heart and absolute tunes.
